OR5A2

Description

The OR5A2 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily A member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5A2 is a protein encoded by the OR5A2 gene in humans. It's involved in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose and triggering a neuronal response. This protein belongs to the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) and shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. It's responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome and has a unique naming system.
