OR56A3

Description

The OR56A3 (olfactory receptor family 56 subfamily A member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR56A3 gene in humans encodes the olfactory receptor 56A3 protein. Olfactory receptors are crucial for our sense of smell. They interact with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a signal that leads to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. They share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure enables them to recognize and transduce odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR56A3 is also known as OR56A2P, OR56A3P, OR56A6.
