OR52N1

Description

The OR52N1 (olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily N member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR52N1 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 52N1. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. OR52N1 is a member of the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. It plays a critical role in the recognition and transduction of odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptors is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR52N1 is also known as OR11-61.
