OR52I2

Description

The OR52I2 (olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily I member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR52I2 is a protein encoded by the OR52I2 gene in humans. Olfactory receptors, like OR52I2, interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of a smell. These receptors are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. The nomenclature assigned to the olfactory receptor genes and proteins for humans is independent of other organisms.

OR52I2 is an odorant receptor protein. It interacts with odor molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response, triggering the perception of smell.

OR52I2 is also known as OR11-12, OR52I1.
