OR51V1

Description

The OR51V1 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily V member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR51V1, a protein encoded by the OR51V1 gene in humans, plays a role in the sense of smell. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that results in the perception of a smell. OR51V1 belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), a group of proteins characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. This structure is common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and is essential for the recognition and transduction of odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.

Odorant receptor.

OR51V1 is also known as OR11-36, OR51A12.
