OR51S1

Description

The OR51S1 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily S member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR51S1 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 51S1, which is involved in the sense of smell. Olfactory receptors detect odor molecules in the nose and trigger a response that leads to the perception of a smell. These receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with each member encoded by a single coding-exon gene. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals via G protein-mediated transduction.

Odorant receptor.

OR51S1 is also known as OR11-24.
