The OR51I2 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily I member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR51I2 gene encodes a protein known as olfactory receptor 51I2. This protein, along with other olfactory receptors, plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. It interacts with odor molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that allows us to perceive smells. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure. This structure is shared with many other receptors involved in neurotransmitter and hormone signaling.
