OR51G1

Description

The OR51G1 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily G member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR51G1 gene in humans codes for the olfactory receptor 51G1 protein. Olfactory receptors are proteins in the nose that bind to odorant molecules and initiate a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. They belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are encoded by single coding-exon genes. Olfactory receptors, like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, share a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome and is independently named from other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR51G1 is also known as OR11-29, OR51G3P.
