OR51B6

Description

The OR51B6 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily B member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR51B6 gene encodes for olfactory receptor 51B6, a protein responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose. Olfactory receptors are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They initiate neuronal responses upon interaction with odorants, ultimately leading to the perception of smell. The OR51B6 gene is part of the olfactory receptor gene family, the largest in the human genome.

Odorant receptor.

OR51B6 is also known as HOR5'Beta6.
