OR4N5

Description

The OR4N5 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily N member 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

Olfactory receptor 4N5 is a protein encoded by the OR4N5 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.
