OR4N2

Description

The OR4N2 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily N member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

Olfactory receptor 4N2 is a protein encoded by the OR4N2 gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in smell perception by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. This interaction initiates a neuronal response, leading to the sensation of smell. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) derived from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein mediation. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature assigned to olfactory receptor genes and proteins for humans is independent of other organisms.

OR4N2 is also known as OR14-13, OR14-8.
