OR4K2

Description

The OR4K2 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily K member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

Olfactory receptor 4K2 is a protein encoded by the OR4K2 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptor proteins belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) derived from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is specific to humans and independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR4K2 is also known as OR14-15.
