OR4F3

Description

The OR4F3 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily F member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

The OR4F3 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 4F3/4F16/4F29 in humans. Olfactory receptors are responsible for detecting smells by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. These receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. Like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are crucial for recognizing odorants and triggering a G protein-mediated signal transduction pathway. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming system for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.
