OR4C6

Description

The OR4C6 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 4C6 is a protein encoded by the OR4C6 gene in humans. It plays a role in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptor proteins are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) derived from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR4C6 is also known as OR11-138.
