OR4C3

Description

The OR4C3 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR4C3 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 4C3, which is involved in the sense of smell in humans. Olfactory receptors are proteins that bind to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. These receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single exon gene. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature for these genes and proteins is unique to humans.

Odorant receptor.

OR4C3 is also known as OR11-98.
