OR4A5

Description

The OR4A5 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily A member 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 4A5 is a protein encoded by the OR4A5 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. The naming system for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR4A5 is also known as OR11-111.
