OR2T12

Description

The OR2T12 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The OR2T12 gene encodes for a protein called Olfactory receptor 2T12, which is involved in the sense of smell. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that we perceive as smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure is responsible for recognizing odorants and initiating a signal transduction process through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature of these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2T12 is also known as OR1-57.
