OR2S2

Description

The OR2S2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily S member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR2S2 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 2S2. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), responsible for detecting smells. These receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. The OR2S2 gene is one of many genes that belong to the olfactory receptor gene family, the largest family of genes in the human genome. Each member of this family has a unique seven-transmembrane domain structure that allows it to bind specific odorants and activate signaling pathways. The naming system for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2S2 is also known as OR37A, OST715.
