OR2L5

Description

The OR2L5 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily L member 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

This gene encodes a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are responsible for the detection of odorants in the environment. The olfactory receptor proteins are members of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. The genes encoding these receptors are clustered in a small region on the chromosome and are among the largest known gene families. The olfactory receptor genes appear to be evolving rapidly and show a high degree of interspecies variability. The diversity of the olfactory receptors is thought to underlie the diversity of smells that mammals can detect.

This protein functions as an odorant receptor.

OR2L5 is also known as OR2L11, OR2L5P.
