OR2K2
Description
The OR2K2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily K member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
OR2K2 is a human gene that encodes the olfactory receptor 2K2 protein. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. OR2K2 is a member of the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Olfactory receptor genes, like OR2K2, are responsible for the recognition and transduction of odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.
Odorant receptor.
OR2K2 is also known as HSHTPCRH06, HTPCRH06, OR2AN1P, OR2AR1P.
