OR2J2

Description

The OR2J2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily J member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

Olfactory receptor 2J2 is a protein encoded by the OR2J2 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein mediation. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. The naming system for olfactory receptor genes and proteins in humans is distinct from other organisms.

Agonists that activate OR2J2 include:

  • 1-Octanol
  • 1-Nonanol
  • 1-Decanol
  • 1-Heptanol
  • Coumarin

Odorant receptor.

OR2J2 is also known as OR6-19, OR6-8, OR6.3.8, ORL684, dJ80I19.4, hs6M1-6.
