OR2G3

Description

The OR2G3 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily G member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The OR2G3 gene encodes the Olfactory Receptor 2G3 protein, a member of the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in smell perception. Olfactory receptors bind to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. These receptors share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure with other GPCRs, facilitating the recognition and transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with each gene encoding a distinct receptor protein. The nomenclature assigned to olfactory receptor genes and proteins is unique to humans.

This protein functions as an odorant receptor, responsible for detecting and transducing odorant signals.

OR2G3 is also known as OR1-33.
