OR2F2

Description

The OR2F2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily F member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

OR2F2 is a human gene encoding the Olfactory receptor 2F2 protein. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in smell perception. They detect odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that triggers the sensation of smell. OR2F2, like other olfactory receptors, has a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure enables them to recognize and transduce odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with a unique nomenclature system for each organism.

Odorant receptor.

OR2F2 is also known as OR7-1.
