OR2D2
Description
The OR2D2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily D member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
The OR2D2 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 2D2, which is involved in the sense of smell. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose. OR2D2 interacts with odorant molecules and triggers a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2D2 has a 7-transmembrane domain structure and is responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.
