OR2B3

Description

The OR2B3 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily B member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

The OR2B3 gene encodes for a protein known as Putative olfactory receptor 2B3. This protein plays a role in our sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. OR2B3 is part of a large family of proteins called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are involved in various cellular processes. OR2B3, like other olfactory receptors, has a structure with seven transmembrane domains, similar to many receptors for neurotransmitters and hormones. This structure allows it to bind to odorant molecules and initiate a signal transduction process that leads to the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is exceptionally large, contributing significantly to the diversity of scents we can detect.

OR2B3 is also known as 6M1-1, OR2B3P, OR6-14, OR6-4.
