OR2AP1

Description

The OR2AP1 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AP member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The OR2AP1 gene encodes the olfactory receptor 2AP1 protein, which plays a crucial role in smell perception in humans. It is a member of the large olfactory receptor family, a type of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). These receptors bind to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. The OR2AP1 gene, like other olfactory receptor genes, has a single coding exon. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for olfactory receptors in humans is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2AP1 is also known as OR2AP1P.
