OR2A4

Description

The OR2A4 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily A member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

The OR2A4 gene in humans encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 2A4. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in smell perception. When odorant molecules bind to olfactory receptors in the nose, they trigger a neuronal response, leading to the sensation of smell. Olfactory receptors share a structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, with 7 transmembrane domains, enabling them to recognize and transduce odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming of these genes and proteins is independent of other species.

Odorant receptor.

OR2A4 is also known as OR2A10, OR2A7.
