OR2A2

Description

The OR2A2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily A member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

Olfactory receptor 2A2 is a protein encoded by the OR2A2 gene in humans. It's involved in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response. This receptor is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single exon gene. Like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, olfactory receptors have a 7-transmembrane domain structure, allowing them to recognize and transduce odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with its own unique naming system independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2A2 is also known as OR2A17P, OR2A2P, OR7-11, OST008.
