OR1S2

Description

The OR1S2 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily S member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR1S2, or Olfactory receptor 1S2, is a protein crucial for the sense of smell in humans. It is encoded by the OR1S2 gene. Olfactory receptors work by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. OR1S2, like other olfactory receptors, is a member of the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). These receptors have a distinctive 7-transmembrane domain structure, shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for identifying and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is remarkably large, and the naming system for these genes and proteins in humans is distinct from other organisms.

OR1S2 is an odorant receptor protein. It is involved in the sense of smell, specifically the detection of odor molecules.

OR1S2 is also known as OR11-231.
