OR1S1

Description

The OR1S1 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily S member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

OR1S1 is a protein found in humans that is encoded by the OR1S1 gene. Olfactory receptors like OR1S1 interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that allows us to smell. These receptors are part of a vast family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each encoded by a single gene. They share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure with many other receptors involved in neurotransmission and hormone signaling. This structure is essential for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the naming system for these genes and proteins is independent from other organisms.

OR1S1, also known as olfactory receptor 1S1, is a type of odorant receptor protein. It plays a key role in detecting and recognizing specific scents in the nose.

OR1S1 is also known as OR11-232, OST034.
