The OR1N2 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily N member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR1N2 gene in humans encodes for the Olfactory receptor 1N2 protein. This protein plays a crucial role in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. It is a member of the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by their seven transmembrane domains. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G proteins, ultimately triggering a neuronal response that allows us to perceive smells. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the naming system for these receptors is independent of other organisms.

This protein acts as an odorant receptor, playing a role in the detection and perception of smells.
