OR1M1

Description

The OR1M1 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily M member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

OR1M1 is a human gene that encodes the Olfactory receptor 1M1 protein. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose. These receptors initiate a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors share a common structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, featuring a 7-transmembrane domain. They are crucial for recognizing odorants and transducing those signals via G proteins.

OR1M1 is also known as OR19-5, OR19-6.
