OR1L1

Description

The OR1L1 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily L member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

OR1L1 is a gene that encodes for a protein called olfactory receptor 1L1. This protein plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that we perceive as a smell. Olfactory receptor proteins belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a common structure with other receptors responsible for recognizing and transmitting signals from neurotransmitters and hormones. The OR1L1 gene is part of a large family of olfactory receptor genes, making up the largest gene family in the human genome.

Odorant receptor.

OR1L1 is also known as HG23, OR1L2, OR9-27, OR9-C.
