OR1K1

Description

The OR1K1 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily K member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR1K1 gene codes for a protein called olfactory receptor 1K1. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a chain of events that leads to the perception of a smell. It is a member of a large family of proteins called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and has a specific structure with 7 transmembrane domains. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals. The gene family for olfactory receptors is the largest in the human genome.

This protein is an odorant receptor.

OR1K1 is also known as hg99.
