OR1J4

Description

The OR1J4 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily J member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

Olfactory receptor 1J4 is a protein encoded by the OR1J4 gene in humans. It plays a role in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. This interaction triggers a neuronal response, leading to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptor proteins belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), with each receptor encoded by a single exon gene. They share a common structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, consisting of seven transmembrane domains. Olfactory receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming convention for olfactory receptors is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR1J4 is also known as HSHTPCRX01, HTPCRX01, OR9-21.
