OR1D2

Description of or1d2

Olfactory receptor 1D2 (or1d2) is a protein encoded by the OR1D2 gene in humans. It is a member of the olfactory receptor family, which is responsible for detecting and transmitting odor information to the brain. OR1D2 is specifically expressed in the olfactory epithelium, the region of the nasal cavity that is responsible for smell. It is activated by a variety of odorants, including floral scents and the smell of urine.

Associated Diseases

Mutations in the OR1D2 gene have been linked to several diseases, including:

  • Anosmia: The inability to smell.
  • Hyposmia: A decreased ability to smell.
  • Parosmia: A distortion of the sense of smell.
  • Phantosmia: The perception of an odor that is not present.
