OR1A1
Description
The OR1A1 (olfactory receptor family 1 subfamily A member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
OR1A1 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR1A1 gene. It's part of the olfactory receptor family, which are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals. OR1A1 is broadly tuned, meaning it responds to various odor molecules, including those with citrus or fruity smells. Some known ligands include citronellal, helional, heptanal, octanal, nonanal, hydroxycitronellal, citral, citronellol, dihydrojasmone, and thiols.
This protein is involved in the detection and recognition of odorant molecules, initiating a signaling cascade that ultimately leads to the perception of smell.
OR1A1 is also known as OR17-7.
