OR13F1

Description

The OR13F1 (olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily F member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR13F1 gene in humans encodes the olfactory receptor 13F1 protein. Olfactory receptors are responsible for detecting odors in the nose. They belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that have a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. When an odorant molecule binds to an olfactory receptor, it triggers a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and each gene encodes a unique olfactory receptor protein.

OR13F1 is also known as OR9-6.
