OR13C9

Description

The OR13C9 (olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily C member 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR13C9 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 13C9. Olfactory receptors detect odors in the nose, triggering a response that leads to the perception of a smell. These receptors belong to a large group called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and have a structure with 7 transmembrane domains. They are similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming of these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR13C9 is also known as OR37L, OR9-13.
