OR13C2

Description

The OR13C2 (olfactory receptor family 13 subfamily C member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The OR13C2 gene encodes a protein known as olfactory receptor 13C2, which plays a crucial role in smell perception. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), all of which share a common 7-transmembrane domain structure. These receptors are responsible for recognizing odorant molecules in the nose and initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its members are encoded by single coding-exon genes. The nomenclature used for olfactory receptors in humans is independent of other organisms.

This protein is involved in detecting and responding to odorant molecules, triggering the perception of smell.

OR13C2 is also known as OR37K.
