OR11H6

Description

The OR11H6 (olfactory receptor family 11 subfamily H member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

The OR11H6 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 11H6. This protein is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) found in the nose. These receptors bind to odorant molecules, initiating a neuronal response that results in the perception of smell. The OR11H6 protein has a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure, common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. This structure enables it to recognize and transduce odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the naming system for these genes and proteins is distinct from other organisms. The primary ligand for OR11H6 is isovaleric acid.
