OR10W1

Description

The OR10W1 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily W member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR10W1 gene encodes the olfactory receptor 10W1 protein in humans. Olfactory receptors detect odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. These receptors are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR10W1 is also known as OR10W1P, OR10W1Q, OR11-236, UNQ6469.
