OR10Q1

Description

The OR10Q1 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily Q member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR10Q1 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 10Q1, which is involved in smell perception. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that triggers the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), each arising from a single coding-exon gene. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, playing a crucial role in recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR10Q1 is also known as OR11-233.
