OR10H3

Description

The OR10H3 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily H member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The OR10H3 gene in humans encodes for the olfactory receptor 10H3 protein, which plays a key role in smell perception. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose. These receptors trigger a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. They share a common structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, possessing a 7-transmembrane domain. The olfactory receptor gene family is one of the largest in the human genome, with each receptor responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through a G protein-mediated mechanism.
