TMED7

Description

The TMED7 (transmembrane p24 trafficking protein 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

TMED7 is a transmembrane protein belonging to the p24 family, which are major components of COPI and COPII-coated vesicles involved in protein trafficking. These proteins are also known as EMP24/GP25L/p24 family or TMP21-like proteins. TMED7, specifically, localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus, playing a role in transport between these compartments. While removing all p24 family proteins in yeast results in only a mild phenotype, some, like TMED7, are essential for survival in mammals. TMED7 has been implicated in the biogenesis of COPI and COPII-coated vesicles, facilitating the transport of membrane-bound proteins through the secretory pathway and contributing to the structure of the ER and Golgi. TMED7 is widely expressed in various tissues.

TMED7 is also known as CGI-109, Tag, p24g3, p24gamma3, p27.
