OR2W3

Description

The OR2W3 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily W member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Olfactory receptor 2W3 is a protein encoded by the OR2W3 gene in humans. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response, leading to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated mechanisms. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptor genes and proteins in humans is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2W3 is also known as OR2W3P, OR2W8P, OST718.
