ITM2B : integral membrane protein 2B

Description

The ITM2B (integral membrane protein 2B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

The ITM2B gene provides instructions for making a protein called integral membrane protein 2B (ITM2B), which is found in all tissues. The exact function of ITM2B is not fully understood, but it is believed to be involved in several important cellular processes. One key role is in triggering cell death (apoptosis) and preventing uncontrolled cell growth (suppressing tumor formation). ITM2B is also thought to play a part in processing the amyloid precursor protein (APP), which is involved in nerve cell function during early development. This processing creates different forms of APP that have various functions. Research suggests that ITM2B helps prevent a specific form of APP from accumulating in cells and tissues.

ITM2B is also known as ABRI, BRI, BRI2, BRICD2B, E25B, E3-16, FBD, RDGCA, imBRI2.
