PRCD

Description

The PRCD (photoreceptor disc component) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The PRCD gene encodes a protein called Progressive rod-cone degeneration protein, which is primarily found in the retina. Mutations in this gene cause a type of inherited retinal degeneration in both humans and dogs. The gene has several different versions due to alternative splicing.

Involved in vision. (PMID: 16938425, PMID: 24992209)

PRCD is also known as RP36.
