IQCB1

Description

The IQCB1 (IQ motif containing B1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

IQ calmodulin-binding motif-containing protein 1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IQCB1 gene.

IQCB1, also known as Nephrocystin-5, plays a crucial role in ciliogenesis. It interacts with CEP290/NPHP6, a protein essential for early cilia formation. IQCB1 also regulates the integrity of the BBSome complex, ensuring the presence of BBS2 and BBS5, and facilitating the ciliary targeting of specific BBSome cargos. Its interaction with CEP290/NPHP6 may be involved in controlling the entry of the BBSome complex into cilia.

IQCB1 is also known as NPHP5, PIQ, SLSN5.
