Description

The IMPG2 (interphotoreceptor matrix proteoglycan 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

IMPG2 is a proteoglycan that binds chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronan, playing a crucial role in organizing the interphotoreceptor matrix. This matrix is essential for the maturation and maintenance of the light-sensitive outer segments of photoreceptor cells, which are crucial for vision. IMPG2 also binds heparin.

IMPG2 is also known as IPM200, RP56, SPACRCAN, VMD5.
